Special Teams Prospects...

Yes, colleges are looking for Special Team prospects with a lot of more urgency. So it is in that vain that we have 2010 and 2011 top special team prospects.

Class of 2010

1. Alejandro Maldonado (K, 5-10, 180, Colton) -- A Washington commit. He can definitely strike successfully for the 40 yard with consistency. Rates high.

2. Trevor Romaine (K, 6-0, 180, Centennial) -- Surprised that he doesn't have an offer. Definitely a top-combo guy (can kick and punt) and definitely comes from a top notch program. Looks good.

3. Rob Horrell (Long Snapper, 5-11, 210 Rancho Cucamonga) -- Long Snapping guru Chris Rubio has mentioned that this is his best prospect that he has worked with in a long time. Fires it back to the punter in .7 seconds consistently. Solid as a rock!

4. Rory Perez (P, 6-2, 170, Canyon Springs) -- Rates very high with Chris Sailer. He is another top combo guy and Sailer feels that he hits a D-1a ball. Senior film becomes a really priority with this prospect.

5. Nick Fernandez (K, 5-8, 160, Chapparal) -- Rates a bit lower of the top 2 on our board. Sailer likes his upside and feels that he is getting better.

CLASS OF 2011

1. Jake Van Kinkel (K, Upland) -- Reportedly sports an offer from San Diego St. We have a bit of a question on his consistency. But he strikes it very well.

2. Jacob Osborne (K. Ayala) -- Coach raves about him and he had a nice combine in the spring with Chris Sailer. Watching tape in 2009 to see if he can move up on the board.

3. Andres Magallon (K, Los Osos) -- Begins his second season as the starting kicker for LO. Has an upside and needs to be followed.

4. Alex Trujillo (Long Snapper, Centennial) -- Good looking kid fires it back with speed and consistency. Getting more solid in our eyes.

5. Luther Roger (Long Snapper, J.W. North) -- Is improving from the spring. Needs to be more consistent to really catch the eye. Prospect.

Top FIve Non Offer Prospects in the IE

Here are the Top-Ranked Non-Offered Players in the Inland Empire. We anticipate their status changing as the season starts.

1. Lamar Bratton (OLT, J.W. North, 6-1 1/2, 268, 5.22) -- I think many colleges are missing the boat with the player. He has great technique and a decent body. Projects as a guard or center at the next level. He needs to be offered! Love this kid.

2. David Dash (Ath, A.B. Miller, 5-8, 169, 4.60 -- Turned in one of the fastest 40 yd dash times at the Nike Combine in Los Angeles early in the spring. Very much in the mold of a RB that can play in space. Waiting to see what happens with the rest of the RB's that have already been offered.

3. Necho Beard (WR, Rancho Verde, 6-0, 186, 4.56) -- The 4.56 was turned in at the Nike Combine in LB. This kid can flat out fly. Love the way he performed at the Nike Camp at USC and it won't be long until someone will offer him. Projects to being an inside WR.

4. Marcel Peoples (WR, Corona Santiago, 5-8, 163, 4,70) -- On a team that passed the ball very inconsistently, he stood out on film. Another kid that is quick in speed. With new HC Jeff Steinberg on board, look for his senior film to just shine. He has a lot going for him.

5. Greg Watson (QB, Rancho Cucamonga, 5-10, 160, 4.92) -- Oregon had offered this kid as a DB, but dropped after that got a commit from a CB is Sarcamento. This kid is a playmaker, but he needs to show that he can play on defense too. Might be tough to get this kid an offer. But, there is hope.

SIerra League will be very interesting...

As a scout, league predictions are the last thing that we want to write about. But there is usually one league that is loaded with college prospects that makes us take notice. This year one of the leagues is the Sierra League. The projected top 4 teams in the league have at least one big-time college prospect. Let's take a look at those four schools.

Glendora – We are very interested in both class of 2011 prospects QB Chad Jefferies and WR Wallace Gonzalez. In speaking with the people that have worked with Jefferies this summer, they have raved about his arm. And when we were invited by Chris Rix to watch him throw during a QB training session, the arm strength was not in question. What he needs to improve on is his accuracy with the deep ball. But, he’s got good RPM’s and seems football savvy enough. All that is in question now is how he handles blitzes when the bright lights are on. And…can he shred defense’s with ease. There are questions, but one of them is not his ability. He has it! Gonzalez is that perfect Z-Receiver type that D-1 schools are looking for. Now, he’s not the fastest cat out there (our estimation is that he can run an electronic forty in a 4.8 – 4.9 range. But he has large hands, a great body and terrific size. I would personally love for him to take control of a game. He needs to have that inner confidence to say, “get me the ball and I’ll score.” One player that has literally fallen under the radar is RB Andre Holmes. His junior tape was not all that bad. Again, speed is in question, but we say that he has good “football speed.” However, it’s not a good thing to be a good running back this year in Southern California.

Damien – A sleeper school that will no longer be a sleeper school now that Gano is a the helm. Great article on rivals.com on DT Tre Hale. It’s good to know that he knows that he needs to be injury free for the season and come out with great performances. They also have a couple of interesting sleeper prospects that need to be watched. I said it in the summer and I’ll say it again, Damien wins a thriller over Bishop Amat during the pre-season.

Chino Hills – HC Derek Bub has done a great job since taking over and he as a very talented squad. First they have a Pac-10 prospect in class of 2011 CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu. He was voted first team All-CIF last year and that doesn’t happen all that often. He quick, got a nice body to him and technically sound. They also have a really nice RB in class of 2011 prospect Nate Harris. One league HC told me last week that he thinks Harris is the best player on the team. And when you couple that with QB Ryan Hotchkiss and an offensive line that really impressed us at the Los Osos lineman competition; that will make this team very formidable.

Ayala – Tom Inglima is one of the top guys in the business and will inherit a team that will be very young in the secondary. But, he also has one of the top sleeper QB’s in the IE in Orange Lutheran transfer Ryan Orozco. We had a chance to work with the kid at the USC Rising Starts camp and he impressed so much that he reportedly got a preferred walk-on offer from Jeremy Bates when the camp is over. Big strapping kid with a big arm, Ayala will definitely come out throwing this year. They also have a nice lineman in Patrick Kim. The projected offensive guard at the next level has an offer from UTEP.
